About us
Luhrs Media Company is a small, independent publishing firm founded in 2003 by the mom/daughter writing/creative team of Jen and Alexis Luhrs, in response to the alarming rise in childhood obesity.
Both Minnesota-born women have had a lifelong devotion to healthy eating habits and preventive health. Mom, Jen, is a health/medical copywriter/creative director who worked with the Stanford Prevention Research Center to develop the HealthBuzz™ interactive web site that was co-branded with msnbc.com in 1997. She wrote the content of the original Streaming Colors Fitness Journal based on established principles of health behavior change, and consulted with Dr. Wes Alles, Director of the Health Improvement Program at Stanford University, to ensure that the journal's concept and written content are sound.
Daughter, Alexis (also a runner) collaborates on all product design and copywriting, along with leading the sales and PR efforts. Calling on their backgrounds in Industrial Design (University of Notre Dame) and Architecture (Syracuse University) respectively, Jen and LA-based Alexis create all of their journals' color-coded tracking systems to be intuitive and adaptable, grounded in established principles of health behavior change, and most of all—easy and fun to use.
"We believe people will be more successful at getting fit and healthy if there's an element of fun to their daily effort. That’s why we use color to remind, reward and motivate you to take the small daily steps that add up to healthier habits and big improvements over time. Thank you to everyone who is helping us spread the word!"
